Harry Styles and Chris Pine ‘spit-take’? ‘Don’t Worry Darling,’ we explain

The latest internet conversation connected to the movie “Don’t Worry Darling” involves stars Harry Styles, Chris Pine and an (alleged) spit-take.

With footage from the Venice Film Festival on Monday, it’s now wide open spread on social media, Styles can be seen approaching Pine to sit next to the actor at a screening of the thriller. As Styles shifted quickly in his seat, he made a subtle “pooh” motion with his mouth, suggesting that he might be spitting. Pine looked down at his lap, paused in his applause, then shook his head and grinned as if there was some kind of joke between the two stars.

Others argue that nothing can be seen coming out of Styles’ mouth.

CNN has reached out to representatives for the actors for comment.

“Just to be clear, Harry Styles did not spit on Chris Pine,” a rep for Pine told People magazine. “There is nothing but respect between these two men and any suggestion otherwise is a blatant attempt to create drama that simply doesn’t exist.”

This is the latest moment in the film’s campaign to raise the specter that things are not all love between those involved in the project.

Still, there were plenty of smiles from the cast at Monday’s festivities.

Pine was spotted on the red carpet, charmingly taking pictures with a disposable camera of the film’s star, Florence Pugh. Styles planted a tender kiss on co-star Nick Kroll during a long standing ovation for the film after the screening.

People on social media were quick to point out that there wasn’t much public interaction between “Don’t Worry Darling” director Olivia Wilde and Pugh, but Wilde had nothing but praise for the actress.

“Florence is a force,” Wilde said at a press conference Monday. “I can’t say enough how honored I am to have her as our lead. He was amazing in the movie.”

The director was asked about reports that he and Pugh had been at loggerheads.

“As for all the endless tabloid gossip and all the noise out there, I mean, the internet feeds on itself,” Wilde said. “I feel like I don’t need to contribute. I think it is nutritious enough.”

Actually. At the same press conference, Pine appeared distracted at times, leading Twitter to dub his appearance there as “Chris Pine astral projecting.”
